The OSU also offers private courses online in addition to their public certificate course.

Fire inspectors must complete a basic fire inspection program approved by the fire commission. They have to pass the commission examination and receive an accreditation from the International fire Service accreditation Congress before becoming a full fledged fire inspector. They have to attend at least three semester hours in Fire Protection Systems, three semester hours on fire Prevention, three semester hours on building code, building construction and hazardous materials each and at least three basic courses on fire prevention principles.

The Fire Service Training Bureau in Iowa is another recognized fire academy offering quality training for aspiring inspectors. This institute is located in Ames. They conduct various Certification programs, seminars and conferences on Fire Service.
