Safety Inspection Training

With a lot of companies and people becoming aware and cautious about safety issues, the need for safety inspectors are on the rise today. Factories and manufacturing units do not want to take the risk with their employee's lives. They want to make sure their workplace is safe for the workers. So they employ safety inspectors or inspection agencies to inspect their premises and certify it is safe on a periodical basis.

There are various safety inspection institutes which normally conduct a two to five day course for supervisors, safety specialists,etc who want to conduct inspections. The students are familiarised with inspection procedures, instructed on standards to be checked in constructions and make sure they comply with OSHA regulations.

Students are given practical training by taking them to construction sites and physically making them inspect the premises. They are also trained on how to make inspection reports to be submitted to authorities. Students attending courses on safety in construction industry need to be equipped with safety shoes, hats which are hard and proper kind of clothing when they go for field visits.

Various other places also require safety inspections like public buildings, dams, roads, etc. Dam inspectors have to be trained to inspect the quality of materials used for construction, whether they are strong and safe, the methods used for constructions, soil and soil construction, hydraulics, etc. He has to accompany a qualified engineer when he goes for inspection.

Electricity is another area where safety inspectors have a huge responsibility. These inspectors have to be trained to inspect whether the circuits and boards are in order, whether switch boards are safely installed, electrical shocks and its consequences, etc. It is the inspector's responsibility to instruct the owners about what has to be done in case of an electrical emergency.

Safety inspectors are also called to give training to employees of big factories and units on safety regulations to be followed. Employees are normally instructed on keeping work place orderly and clean, to keep all exits and openings free from obstructions in case they have to exit in emergency, to limit the height of stored materials in order to be absolutely safe, warning signs and boards wherever necessary, etc.

Another aspect the inspector has to trained in is to check on whether hazardous materials are stored properly, whether loaders are carrying the right amount of weight or overloaded, whether fire exits are well lit and spacious, etc.

Inspectors also check on tall cabinets, bookshelves and huge furniture's to see if they are fastened and secured to the walls to be safe in case of earthquakes or other natural calamities. They check on whether electrical appliances are cleaned and maintained properly.
